Orientation Senior High

2008 is a special year for the Year Fives as we embark on another phase of the Dunman High Programme as a Senior High student. As we become young adults at this turning point, we face more responsibilities, more new experiences and more life-skills to be acquired. To commemorate this new and exciting start, the Senior High Student Council planned a 3 day 1 night orientation which was unforgettable and it kick-started 2008 with a bang!

The orientation theme, ¡°Strength in Unity¡±, resounded in our heads throughout the Orientation period. We were sorted into our
various houses and were immersed in the house spirit immediately after donning a house T-shirt. On top of that, initiation
activities such as ice-breakers and flag making were carried out, enabling us to get to know our Orientation Group Leaders (OGLs),
Year 6s and most importantly, our new classmates better.

We also played ¡®Taxidi¡¯, an Amazing-Race-like activity that had all four hundred plus Senior High students running around
Singapore, solving clues and visiting various stations where we made mocktails, played pool, squeezed tomato juice using
various unconventional ways and more! As we encouraged each other in completing the activities, had hurried meals together
with a common goal to finish the race first and basically engaged in light-hearted conversation the whole afternoon, we had
unknowingly built up a class spirit and had also gotten to know our OGLs much better.

On the second day, we went for the much-anticipated dragon-boating session! It was a first for most of us and it was great fun learning how to paddle, how to work as a team and we deeply appreciated how listening to instructions was essential to get it right, to get us ¡®moving¡¯, literally. We had a splashing good time! The mini dragon boat race at the end raised our adrenaline levels as we paddled as though our lives depended on it. It was an unforgettable feeling, to speed past other boats, to see paddles that moved along the same beat and to watch the intense focus in every one of us. While at the Kallang Riverside Park, we also played ¡®Survivor¡¯ and ¡®Intelli-code¡¯, which pushed us to think out of the box and once again bonded us together in a united race against time. 'Jam Night' was the highlight of the day, where we had performances
by our own in-house band of charming Year 6 Seniors which had everyone
up on their feet, singing and grooving to the music! There was a pageant
too, to find out who had Dunman High¡¯s Sexiest Legs and Lips! It was all in
good fun and everyone had a spectacular time.

'Fright Night' was most memorable as it tested our courage and intellect at the same time. Armed with only a light-stick and one other similarly-frightened companion, we went to various parts of the school in the wee hours of the morning to solve a murder case. At other times, we were immersed in the mind-boggling case and were scared out of our wits, crouching in teams in near darkness, the place lit only by the laptops we were working on.

On the last day, we had dinner with our OGs and proceeded to East Coast Park for the finale! With mass dance and sparkling drinks, our Principal¡¯s rousing speech and receiving our report card for the days¡¯ events, the night had everyone in high spirits, all ready to embrace the upcoming school year with gusto and excitement.
